Coconut Grove

Miami, USA

Located in the middle of Coconut Grove, Miami, this project is a luscious example of transitional living and a reflection of Stephanie Barba Mendoza’s approach to fusing a modern aesthetic with classical tendencies.

Mindful of the warm weather, the studio ensured the pool deck area worked as a functioning living space as much as indoors. Eclectic finds from local antique dealers contrast against the tropical planting surrounding the pool. Fresh materials such as linen and cotton have been used with soft boucles and rattans to create a layered look that reflects the heady heat of Miami.

Working with the mid-century-inspired architecture, the studio sought to create a family home that would work from morning through to night. A central, light-filled living area is brought to life thanks to bespoke upholstery peppered with unique vintage and antique pieces. A soft colour palette of blues and whites are contrasted with bold red-striped armchairs and curving surfaces. Dressing the statement fully-glazed side is a boldly patterned Austrian-style swagging blind that draws the eye upwards to the glamorous Murano-glass chandeliers and then beyond to the luscious pool terrace.
